David LaHaye

Principal Product & UX Leader

Senior Product Manager at Target, with principal-level scope: the direction of its enterprise content and AI platforms.

  • Enterprise Platforms
  • AI & Content Systems
  • Design Systems & UX Strategy

Product and UX leader who sets direction for enterprise platforms at Target. Before that, the enterprise digital asset platform, taken from fragmented workflows to a system of record, with production AI enrichment across millions of assets and tens of millions in annual value. Decides where AI earns its place and builds the evaluation, traceability, and governance that let it ship. Now leading the agentic access layer (APIs, MCP, tools, and agents) for enterprise content.

Six layers, each built in a role. The current role runs on all of them.

The evidence

Top of the stack first. Each layer names the work that built it and what it produced. Dates are in the record at the end.

AI enablement

How intelligence amplifies every layer below it.

  • Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Platforms, Content & AITarget
  • Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Digital Asset PlatformTarget

Decides where AI earns its place and builds the evaluation, traceability, and governance that let it ship. Now leading the agentic access layer (APIs, MCP, tools, and agents) for enterprise content.

  • Led design and rollout of a production AI metadata enrichment pipeline across millions of assets. In its first year it did the work of 550+ skilled professionals working full time. Each asset is enriched in seconds to a minute, removing nearly all of the manual effort.
  • Evolved the pipeline from computer vision at launch to LLM, OCR, embeddings, and vector search, across in-house and foundation models, deciding where each earned its place.

Now · Four capability areas, one portfolio

Agentic accessVision and strategy

Own the vision and strategy for how people and AI agents reach enterprise content through one access layer, with the interface matched to the use case.

Brand knowledgeVision to implementation

Drove the vision, strategy, and implementation of a shared brand-knowledge platform. Aligned engineering, data science, UX, brand, and partners behind it.

Content evaluationVision to implementation

Own the vision, strategy, and implementation of the feature, its services, and the experiences built on it: how content quality is judged at scale, and where AI evaluates versus where people sign off.

Work entity platformLive

Connects work across content creation channels and workstreams to the assets and content made for them in disparate systems, for end-to-end visibility and reporting.

AI enrichment pipeline

Set the bar for what ships by shaping the system around the AI, not just the model: decoupled experimentation and validation before production, automated evals that surface failing dimensions for human review, and model and configuration traceability for reprocessing, audit trail, and responsible-AI governance

First-year output

In its first year, the enrichment pipeline did the work of more than 550 skilled professionals, each working a full year of 40-hour weeks without a break

Each dot is one full-time professional’s worth of work that would otherwise not have been done550+

No roles were replaced. This is work that could not have been staffed or prioritized before. Work-equivalent is the shareable measure. The underlying volumes and cost figures are internal to Target.

Systems design

How tools, platforms, and the people using them are made to work together.

  • Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Platforms, Content & AITarget
  • Lead Product Owner, Experience Enablement & Enterprise AnalyticsTarget
  • Senior Principal Product Manager, Veritas Design SystemVeritas Technologies

Own product direction for a four-team portfolio, about a dozen people each across engineering, data science, UX, and brand, spanning brand knowledge, content delivery (including delivery of all images and video on Target.com), platform services, and the content gateway. Set the shared services, operating models, governance, and measurement the portfolio builds against, across organizational boundaries.

  • Set the access model shared across platform tools (tenant hierarchy, approval authority, access policy) and took it to production. Adopted across the platform portfolio, with more tools onboarding.
  • Defined the operating model for creative work in progress, now spanning dozens of teams, with an owner at every handoff from planning through delivery.
  • Established the Veritas Design System as the standard for all new and long-lived products, three major products live and more in flight within the first year, adopted through utility and autonomy rather than mandate. Founded the company-wide UX community.
  • Established an innersource contribution model that increased cross-team contributions by 50% and distributed ownership beyond the central team.

The method

Earns adoption across independent teams rather than mandating it: shared capabilities at Target, a design system at Veritas. Sets the direction that engineering, data science, UX, and brand teams build against. Mentors product managers and designers, formally and informally, across disciplines.

Platform leadership

How outcomes scale.

  • Senior Product Manager, Enterprise Digital Asset PlatformTarget

Owned strategy for Target’s internally built enterprise digital asset management (DAM) platform and its evolution into a system of record and intelligence layer for item, creative, and marketing content: dozens of integrated systems and 2,000+ monthly active users across internal teams, agencies, vendors, and partners.

  • Set and owned the multi-year strategy that consolidated fragmented asset workflows, teams, and capabilities into one enterprise platform, delivering tens of millions in annual value through capacity creation and cost reduction, tracked against enterprise OKRs.
  • Partnered with engineering to design scalable enterprise APIs for the platform’s core services, including upload, search, and projects, the foundation of its enterprise scale.
  • Owned third-party vendor and partner relationships, aligning vendor roadmaps to the platform’s.

Product leadership

How decisions become outcomes.

  • Lead Product Owner, Experience Enablement & Enterprise AnalyticsTarget

Led two internal platform initiatives built on one principle: give independent teams shared capabilities without creating a centralized bottleneck.

  • Turned an analytics proof of concept into an enterprise platform adopted by 65+ internal products in its first year, cutting implementation, onboarding, and maintenance overhead by ~90% with time to value under five minutes.
  • Led a UI toolkit and starter kit for Target’s internal application platform (automated dependency management, starter application, built-in insights) that cut setup time and technical debt for partner teams, and seeded the cross-organizational design system for internal tools.

In other people's words

I've had the good fortune to work with Dave on a few occasions and would do it again without hesitation. His ability to quickly determine what a customer needs rivals that of any startup product person I've worked with. When combined with his ability to design elegant, modern web applications it's easy to see why Dave has been so successful for so long.

If you need Visual or UX design, product leadership, team leadership, or anything else in that space, Dave is your guy.
